| Fucecchio • A castle on the Via Francigena |
|
The heart of the city consists of the Corsini Complex, on the remains of the old mediaeval castle, now the seat of the Fucecchio Museum, and of the Poggio Salamartano, a religious centre for the local population since the 11th century. The journalist Idro Montanelli was born here. The Montanelli Bassi Foundation presents a vast array of documents about the journalist and his studies of Rome and Milan, entirely moved in there. |

The history of Fucecchio is linked above all to the Via Francigena ( the old pilgrim way which some one thousand years ago linked Canterbury to Rome), that here crossed the Arno, a part of whose antique stone pavement may still be tread on around Galleno.
