A week-end devoted to the discovery of the great Cinquecento tradition in Empoli and Montelupo Fiorentino. The Decoration Course will acquaint you with the local artistic pottery, made by a centuries old process, in the many workshops in Montelupo. The city holds its annual International Pottery Event at the end of June. The course “Jacopo’s colours” will introduce you to the mannerist painter born at Empoli, and to his artful use of colour.

RECOMMENDED ITINERARY
FRIDAY Morning arrival. Introduction to the decoration course and lunch. Guided visit to the Ceramics Museum in Montelupo Fiorentino to see an old kiln and a demonstration by a pottery master. Visit to a handicraft studio.
SATURDAY Pottery decoration lesson and lunch. Creative workshop "The colours of Jacopo" and guided visit to Pontorme. Transfer to Empoli for free time and dinner downtown.
SUNDAY Pottery decoration lesson, free lunch and departure.
The Pottery Decoration Course, lasting six hours, will acquaint you with the typical decorations for plates and crockery in the Tuscan tradition. You will be issued with a certificate of attendance and given the pottery made by you to take away.
